Vista 4WD Hire
Vista 4WD Hire provides short- and medium-term four-wheel drive rentals to customers in Queensland and New South Wales. With a fleet of 100 vehicles, the company has built a reputation for providing vehicles with the right safety specifications for off-road applications.
Vista 4WD Hire’s customers regularly visit exploration and mining sites in areas with little or no road infrastructure, making driver safety one of the company’s key concerns. This is why some of their rentals feature the latest safety equipment, including visibility enhancers and additional rollover protection.
To further improve safety, Vista 4WD recognised the need for a telematics-based In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) that’s capable of integrating driver behaviour data, vehicle condition monitoring and GPS location data into an easy-to-use and interpret system visible to both the driver and a control room. The goal was to use remote monitoring technology to enable greater co-operation between drivers and Vista 4WD’s customers and encourage measurable driver behaviour improvements.
The solution also needed to comply with strict safety standards imposed by mining operators in the region.
Vista 4WD Hire consulted with the MiX Telematics channel partner, Future Fleet, to specify, install and commission a complete IVMS. They decided to install the MiX SafeDrive solution, which used the FM3306 and FM3707 GSM and GPS devices linked to MiX’s online software platform.
The solution was chosen based on the technology’s compliance with strict safety standards and the high level of local support available from Future Fleet.
Future Fleet was contracted to install a turnkey MiX Telematics solution across 30 vehicles after completing an initial two-vehicle trial. To tailor the solution towards Vista 4WD Hire’s unique safety requirements, the system included the blue driver plug for driver identification, seatbelt usage monitoring, 4-wheel drive engagement, a panic alarm and modem communication for remote locations.
The company also programmed and commissioned additional hardware and software interfaces to ensure seamless reporting and integration into the MiX Telematics software platform.
The MiX Telematics software platform’s functionality provides vehicle location, driver behaviour and condition data. When combined into a single report, this information helps fleet controllers to identify and schedule maintenance with minimal inconvenience to their customers’ daily working schedules. The system’s ability to produce historical data also enables Vista 4WD Hire to investigate incidents.
“The MiX Telematics system and support from Future Fleet is vital to our business,” says Stephen Dimitrios, Owner and Manager at Vista 4WD Hire. “It provides our business with a fully featured IVMS that’s compliant with our customers’ requirements, and is a powerful tool for proactively scheduling maintenance and for investigating accidents and incidents.”
“We chose the MiX Telematics solution because it is fully compliant with our customer’s needs and is locally supported,” says Stephen.
The company’s customers have furthermore been able to improve their own safety behind the wheel by gaining access to trip reports and driver behaviour information, which reports on factors like speeding and harsh braking.
