MiX by Powerfleet putting road safety first at Bus and Coach Association Conference in New Zealand

Hamilton, New Zealand, 7th October 2015 – 210 people have died on New Zealand roads from the beginning of this year to the end of August, which is 28 more than the same time last year, according to the New Zealand Ministry of Transport.

MiX by Powerfleet - a leading global provider of fleet and mobile asset management solutions – provides a range of solutions to help reduce road fatalities. In collaboration with New Zealand Channel Partner, Vehicle Technologies, the company will be exhibiting at the Bus and Coach Association Conference, being held in Hamilton, New Zealand, from 8 to 10 October.

MiX by Powerfleet and Vehicle Technologies will be on hand to discuss their latest safety technologies for buses, including driver engagement app MyMiX that launched in September this year, as well as MiX’s in- cab driving aid, the ‘RIBAS’, which was shortlisted for the Fleet Safety Innovation Award by charity organisation, Brake Professional, at their inaugural Australasian Fleet Safety Awards.

“MiX by Powerfleet is an established service provider for the bus and coach industry, so the show is a great opportunity to discuss our latest technologies that are dedicated to the future of the public transport industry,” said Lianna Giuffre, Head of Sales and Marketing at MiX by Powerfleet (Australasia).

“As the global population rises, it is anticipated that the reliance on mass-transit systems will also grow. This trend is accompanied with an immense need to better protect the increasing number of public transport users,” she said.

MiX by Powerfleet and Vehicle Technologies have already helped organisations to achieve significant safety improvements in the New Zealand public transport sector.

Since being commissioned by Christchurch-based transport company Red Bus in late 2014, MiX by Powerfleet has been able to help the operator achieve a massive 40% reduction in crashes. Red Bus provides transport services to approximately 3.8 million passengers per annum.

With the introduction of the MiX by Powerfleet solution, Red Bus has also been able to achieve a 5% reduction in its annual fuel bill.

Commenting on these results, Giuffre said: “To reduce the amount of recorded crashes by such a large percentage demonstrates that MiX by Powerfleet solutions have a tangible impact, with the power to save lives on the road”.

“The reduction in fuel consumption is also a very positive development – and not just in economic terms. We know that crash-free driving does not equate to safe driving, so this decrease in fuel usage suggests that the buses in operation now are driving smoother and are less likely to be involved in near-miss incidents,” she said.

The 2015 Bus and Coach Association Conference will be themed ‘Looking Forward to the Future’ and will exhibit a variety of emerging bus technologies and new industry developments.
